1. Living in the Projects

I’m always doing something. The activities have evolved to be more sophisticated and purposeful, but it’s still “various something’s” I conjure to channel my creativity in a way that energizes me and helps others.

Managing creative projects in Corporate America exposes me to tools, methods and a sense of urgency to deliver exciting, innovative elements. It’s a blessing that my profession keeps me sharp in managing my own creative projects. I’ve built countless websites, produced songs, written books, drawn cartoons and hosted events. It’s time to streamline my endeavors into simple, yet substantial projects that are long-term and ingratiating to my life while touching the lives of others in a positive way.

Over the next year, I’ll be managing five “personal projects” that are rooted in the creative moves I’ve made over the past 5-6 years. I’m sure to touch miscellaneous requests from friends and clients and I know my year at work will see hundreds of projects, big and small. But these five are my game changers:

    APNF Online Store
I’ve been drawing the coolest pug ever since 2010. It’s time to step his game up with merchandise. The demand is there and I know how to build an e-commerce function within the existing website. More importantly, I’m building a myriad of graphics in order to have he flyest T-shirts, mugs, mouse pads, etc. available.

My successful Kickstarter-backed project is another APNF endeavor that started in 2011 and I can’t wait to get this off my plate and into the world! This print book has been faced with so many challenges from production to printing to just LIFE getting in the way. The production is 99% complete and, once the Kickstarter backers are taken care of, it’s on and popping with a book-signing and online promotion.

    Project Shade
This novel has been burning a hole in my soul since I came up with the idea a few years ago. It’s a story about a very pro-black public figure whose Afrocentric world is invaded by secrets, betrayal and conviction. I’ve outlined and started the manuscript - it would be great to complete the manuscript and have it in a copyeditor’s hands by the end of the year.

The Art of Making Love (Marketing)
My first novel, released in September 2011, is available on Lulu.com, Amazon and Barnes & Noble as a paperback and eBook. Despite the distribution, I haven’t done much to promote the book besides build a landing page and mention it on Facebook every blue moon. I’m a marketer so that has to change and will change with a full blown campaign.

    Pug Run 5K
I love fitness. I loved my pug (RIP). I have an idea to sponsor/coordinate a 5K walk/run to benefit the Pug Rescue Mission of Houston. I was successful in launching Houston’s first PodCamp so we’ll see where this goes.

Between these five major projects, my personal responsibilities and work, the next year will be off the chain. I will continue to encourage myself to accomplish these goals and hopefully inspire someone to live in the projects.
